Queen Elizabeth National Park Wildlife Safari
Queen Elizabeth National Park was designated as a Biosphere Reserve for humanity under the auspice of UNESCO. The park is one of the most varied ecosystems in Africa, along with Kyambura and Kigezi Wildlife Reserve. It is situated in the western arm of the Great Rift Valley and covers 1,978 sq. km from semi-deciduous tropical forest to green meadows Savannah and swamps.
It is home to the renowned tree climbing lions as well as Uganda kob, the species of other antelopes, topi, hyenas, crocodiles water-bucks elephant, baboons, hippos, buffalo, and 10 primate species including chimpanzees and more. Over 500 species of birds have been recorded, making the park a magnet for bird watchers.
The bird species includes the black bee-eater, 11 types of king fisher, and several species of falcons, eagles and the raptors and many more. In the crater lakes to the north, flocks of flamingoes can be found. A favorite way to view the game is by launch trip on the Kazinga Channel between Lakes George and Edward.
DAY 1 Kampala to Queen Elizabeth National Park
Drive west from Kampala early in the morning and stop for pictures at the equator. Follow the mystical Rwenzori Mountain range to Queen Elizabeth National Park for much of the journey.
A game drive En route may be rewarded with views of Lions, Elephants, Leopards, Buffaloes, Hyenas and a variety of Antelope species. After lunch, go sightseeing in the crater region – it is a marvel! Visit the Katwe Salt works for a glimpse into traditional salt mining. Dinner and over night at Mweya Safari Lodge / Budget Institute of ecology. (BLD)
DAY 2 Game Drive & Launch Cruise at Queen Elizabeth NP
An early morning game drive in Queen Elizabeth national park, provide excellent opportunities to see Lions, Leopards, Giant Forest Hogs, Cape Buffaloes, Elephants, Defassa Waterbucks, Uganda Kobs, Topi and Bush bucks and many more.
After lunch, Enjoy the unique 2-hour boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel and into Lake Edward in Queen Elizabeth NP. This journey may go through the largest concentration of Hippos, and at the bottom of the water many animals can be seen drinking.
This launch cruise provides an outstanding photography, bird watching and game viewing platform, perfect for safari in Uganda. The prolific bird life is colorful and stupendous with well over 550 resident species. Dinner and over night at Mweya Safari Lodge / Budget Institute of ecology. (BLD)
DAY 3 (BLD) Chimp tracking and Returning to Kampala
Head to the Kyambura gorge for chimp tracking and a range of primates after a very early breakfast. Return to Kampala after the tracking. Lunch on route and arrive in the city late evening.
Note that Chimpanzee tracking in Queen Elizabeth is an optional activity and in case you need it an extra 150 USD should be paid in addition to the actual cost.
